Rhythmic & Powerful Game Takes Jeff Into National Finals

It’s been a remarkable day for 56-year old Jeff Cheong from Kluang Country Club. His swing has been so rhythmic yet so powerful. He was awesome with his driver and putter. The 9-handicapper who shot a gross score of 75 jumped in joy when he walked to collect his prize.

The fairways at Kluang Country Club are spread over a hilly terrain and to play on this “commando course” is no easy task. “I’ve not taken a break for the past 18-years,” said Jeff who displayed signs of utmost loyalty in the Carlsberg Golf Classic event, and has won it seven times.

Jeff complimented Carlsberg Marketing for organizing such a prestigious golf event. “Carlsberg did a great job, everyone is happy. The prizes are fantastic especially the last one which kept everybody glued to their chairs - a lucky draw 46 inch Sharp LED TV.”

In second with 80 gross was Kluang Country’s Club Golf Captain, Syed Abd Jabar Syed Hamzah while George Wee aka “Long Hitter George” came in third with 83 gross. In fourth and fifth placing respectively were golfers Lim Chee Siong with 85 Gross while Low Sze Fah was one stroke behind on the leaderboard.

Kluang Country Club is a 9-hole golf course located in Johor played host to the 3rd preliminary leg of the Carlsberg Golf Classic golf event on 25th May. The first and second rounds were placed at Staffield Country Resort, Negeri Sembilan on 17th May (Saturday) while Kota Permai Golf & Country Club, Selangor hosted the longest and biggest amateur golf event on 18th May (Sunday).

This year marked the 21st Edition and it saw an increase of prize value for all the categories. There were seven prizes for both the Nett and Gross categories. In addition to that, there were four hole in one prizes at each leg (prize value of RM50,000 for all Par 3’s in all 40 preliminary leagues.)

In the National Final, it gets better, all Par 3’s will feature spectacular Hole-In-One prizes worth more than RM500,000 consisting of 2 cars from Mercedes Benz Malaysia, the B200 and C200, a trip for 2 with hospitality to St Andrews to watch the British Open 2015 with 4 rounds of golfing thanks to Liberty Golf, an 80inch Sharp LED TV, a Titoni timepiece by ATG Watch and a premium massage chair from Ogawa.

The Nett and Gross National Final champions will also get to play alongside world class PROs during the ProAm in Maybank Malaysian Open 2015.

Garuda International Golf Challenge 2014 (Round 2)

Lovely Golf Courses & First Class Indonesian Hospitality

Golfers from Malaysia and Singapore experienced great golf moments at one of the most exciting golf events in Asia – “The Garuda International Golf Challenge 2014” played in Jakarta recently and organized by Garuda International Airlines. The inaugural golf event attracted a total of 41 participants. 
  
The event consisting of six preliminary legs and a grand final got off to a rousing start in April followed by the second round in May which saw three notable golf courses hosting it. It began with a practice round at Padang Golf Modern followed by proper competition (2-days) at Bogor Raya Golf Club and Royale Jakarta Golf Club.

“It’s a dream come true,” said Pak Dasep M. Suanda, the Country Manager for Malaysia Garuda Indonesia and the man responsible for steering this golf event into success. “I also give credit to our consortium consisting of four notable tour operators adding another two golf tour planners. Our plans began in early February with the aim of penetrating into the golf market.”

He continued: “With the help of these consortiums, our long awaited dream finally came true. We managed to plan and execute this golf event within 30 days.”

The Gross and Nett winners from the respective preliminary legs will earn a spot to play in the Grand Final at the beautiful island of Bali which is scheduled next January 2015. “It’s fully sponsored by Garuda Indonesia,” exclaimed Pak Dasep.

The tournament will take a break during the Muslim Fasting months and Hari Raya Aidilfitri (June to July) and will resume from 20-23 August at Gading Raya Padang Golf Club with proper tournaments held respectively at Padang Golf Pantai Indah Kapuk and Gunung Geulis Golf and Country Club.

“Playing golf in Indonesia is an experience to be treasured.
