The Sabah Suluk Story
We are Malaysians - The Sabah Suluk Story was filmed at Tawau in Sabah. I ventured into a fishing village situated nearby Shan Shui Golf & Country Resort and interviewed its humble and pretty shy folks. One of them said to me that we were not the Bad Suluks!

Tommy's Place, Kudat
Tommy's Place has gained much popularity over the years and is located near the Kudat's Tip Of Borneo. I was surprised to know that this place has been visited by tourists as far from Germany and South Africa in search of solitude. The beach offers a majestic view which is seen opposite the villas. The evening sunset at the Tip Of Borneo which is only a 10 minute walk is not to be missed. For golfers, proceed to Kudat Golf Club which is located 30km away at the town area.

Medic Buggy
The idea of having a Medic Buggy on a golf course will prove itself to be extremely useful. They are quick and effective when it comes to providing medical help during emergencies and for regular operations. Quite common at hospitals and medical centres as they are ergonomic and come specially equipped with a provision for stretcher, oxygen bottles, drip stand and other essential medical kits. Now it has caught the attention of Tropicana Golf & Country Club when they purchased their first Medic Buggy at RM80,000. David Wang, the assistant golf manager said, ”We have a special internal team (staffs) that are trained to handle the equipments on the Medic Buggy during emergencies. Let’s hope more golf clubs will emulate our example.”

Mount Kinabalu is also the 20th most prominent mountain in the world by topographic prominence. Here I showed the beauty of the mountain from the Kinabalu Golf Club. It was amazing and worth the trip.

The 20th instalment of Carlsberg Golf Classic, Malaysia’s biggest and
longest running amateur golf circuit, culminated on 12th December in
a thrilling playoff among 80 finalists at the Palm Garden Golf Club in
Putrajaya. True to its tagline of ‘Precision is Power’, the golf tournament ends its 40 legs of qualifying rounds with an ultimate tee-off to name two skilful amateurs the National Champions of the Carlsberg Golf Classic Finals with rewards of rewarding prizes and a money-can’t buy experience to play alongside world-class professional golfers at the ProAm of Maybank Malaysian Open (MMO) 2014.
Prior to the grand finale tee-off, Carlsberg Managing Director Henrik Juel Andersen said “The Carlsberg Golf Classic has grown from strength to strength as a vital circuit to cultivate home grown talent in golf. Today, this tournament has become the industry benchmark in the golf championships for amateurs and a highly regarded platform in the eyes of the fraternity of golf. It is a key stepping stone for amateurs to venture into the competitive world of professional golf and Carlsberg is proud to be a part of this prestigious game.”
“Over the last two decades, Carlsberg and golf have been a good match, with both sharing several qualities like passion, integrity and discipline. Carlsberg certainly has become the beer that golfers prefer to enjoy after a round of golf. And it goes without saying that while the tournament participants and winners stand to benefit, it is also our consumers and golf fans who get the special privilege to experience this premium Carlsberg golf occasion.”

Batam Finale for D'Masters Golf Tour 2010
Champion and grand lucky draw winner rewarded with golf holidays to Hawaii
I have done many golf events and the most memorable trip was to Batam, Indonesia with DiGi Telecommunications Sdn Bhd from 10-12 January 2010. This story is a flashback and deserves to be published on my blog. It was a 3D2N trip which saw 24 finalists pit their
golfing skills against each other at two of the island's highly-rated golf
courses – Batam Hills Golf & Resort and Southlinks Golf & Country Club.
Adam Khan of Semangat Anggun emerged as the Grand Final winner with a combined two-day score of 74. The 11-handicapper claimed the main prize of a golf holiday at the world-renowned Kapalua Resort in Hawaii. Guest Jaya Kumar Ponnan also secured himself a golf retreat in Hawaii after his name was picked in the Grand Lucky Draw.
Christian Schutt, DiGi's Head of Consumer & Enterprise Business (at that time) said: "I believe that DiGi has achieved its objective to create opportunities for our DiGi Business clients to forge stronger ties and network with each other and with DiGi. Golf has allowed us at DiGi to meet our clients in a more relaxed setting and enabled us to better understand their business needs and how we can provide solutions relevant to them."
The
D'Masters Golf Tour 2010 featured eight legs with the first leg held on 22 July
at the Sungai Long Golf & Country Club, followed by Ponderosa Golf &
Country Club (July 22), Dalit Bay Golf & Country Club (August 5), Kota
Permai Golf & Country Club (September 28), Kelab Golf Sarawak (September
30), Glenmarie Golf & Country Club (October 7) and Bukit Jawi Golf Resort
(21 October ) before the final leg at Kuala Lumpur Golf & Country Club
(November 4).
The
third edition of the highly-successful by-invitation only event saw
TaylorMade-adidas, FireFly and Titoni coming onboard as sponsors.
About the D'Masters Golf Tour
The D'Masters Golf Tour was held exclusively for selected DiGi Business customers with the objective of
forging closer ties all around. Featuring eight legs in 2010, the D'Masters
Golf Tour culminated with the Grand Final in Batam, Indonesia in January 2010.
The format of play was based on blind partnerships playing under a modified
system 36 stableford. The top pair and a 'wild card' pick from each leg
qualified for the Grand Final while the individual overall champion in each leg
received a BlackBerry smartphone.

Rose Among Thorn
There are not many female golf course superintendents in the
country and Kulim Golf & Country Resort boasts one of them in 28-year-old
Akilah Abdul Razak.
The Kulim native joined the club in 2009 as assistant
superintendent and was promoted to Course Superintendant (2010) to head the
maintenance team. The Bachelor of Park and Amenity Management Hons graduate
from UITM Shah Alam actually did her internship at the club in the year 2008
and was personally responsible for the huge red cement initials of the club
next to the 18 hole that is clearly visible from the clubhouse.
“My instruction was to design and create a unique landmark, so I
located a nice spot that was visible from the clubhouse. And the view was
breathtaking,” said Akilah, who took two months to complete the task.
“After that, I returned to UITM Shah Alam to continue my studies.
Six months later, the club’s superintendent Encik Abdullah asked if I wanted
work there as his assistant. I joined them in August 2009 and when he left in
October 2010, I was given the task of course superintendant.
“I feel proud to be the only female superintendent in northern
Peninsula Malaysia and I thank Allah for this gift,” added Akilah.

Carlsberg's new managing director Henrik Juel Andersen enjoys the camaraderie of golf.
"I find the combination of enjoyment, the scenery, camaraderie and the competitive element really unique and attractive about golf. I don't think there are many sports that offer that same experience."

Farewell 20th, Hello 21st
With the Carlsberg Golf Classic 2013 wrapping up, all eyes are set on the 2014 edition, already promising better prizes than ever before
BY GURDEV SINGH
The national final will take
place on December 12 at the Palm Garden Golf Club, designed by renowned
Australian course architect Ted Parslow. As usual the spotlight will be on the
gross and nett winners who had qualified earlier in the preliminary rounds that
were played at some of the finest golf clubs around the country.
“Forty golf courses were
selected and mainly we rewarded them due to the loyal support given to the
Carlsberg brand. I’m glad that the events ran smoothly this year and plans to
host next year’s 21st edition is underway,” said Alex Leong, marketing
activation manager of Carlsberg Malaysia .
“The Carlsberg Golf Classic
is over-subscribed yearly and at Tawau Golf Club we had 180 golfers. Due to
this number, the event was played over a two-day period. The goodies and great
prizes make this tournament a hit every year,” said Mah Sui Kiong, general
manager of Tawau Golf Club in Sabah , which
hosted the 17th leg on September 8.
The clubs also put in a lot
of effort in creating a fun ambience for the prize-givings. Due credit must be
given to the F&B crew of Bukit Jawi Golf Resort, which hosted the 36 leg on
November 9 – Chang Chee Meng, the F&B manager of the resort, along with his
team, did a great job in fashioning a unique and lovely setting for the
golfers.
“We managed to create all
this, thanks to the unwavering support from Carlsberg Malaysia . We
never ran short of souvenir items. We decorated the tables and bar area as
creatively as we could. I’m glad that our effort is noted and hopefully we can
win a prize for this someday,” said a happy Chang.
As for the golfers, they were
a happy bunch too with the Carlsberg Golf Classic swinging by their respective
golf clubs during the preliminary legs from April to November this year.
Dato Suppiah Manikam, who won
the nett title at Kelab Rekreasi Tentera Udara, Butterworth, is a proud winner
– especially since he claimed the title last year as well. “Actually I was
using a new putter and blew some holes; however, I managed to overcome my
putting problem as I cruised along the 18-hole golf course. I will try my best
to win the nett title this year (at the national final),” said an elated
Manikam.
Lim Eng Wah, Carlsberg Malaysia
regional sales manager for the northern region, gave a thumbs-up for such a
successful edition. “I wish the national finalists the best of luck,” he said.
“They can look out for
exciting prizes for all Par 3s featuring Hole-In-One prizes comprising a
Mercedes-Benz CG200CGi, a Titoni watch, an Ogawa massage chair and a golf package
for two to watch the 2014 US Masters, courtesy of Liberty Golf Services,”
concluded Lim.
Carlsberg Malaysia extends a
special ‘thank you’ to all partners for their support, namely Mercedes-Benz
Malaysia, Berjaya, Liberty Golf Services, FJ, Ogawa, Titoni, K’s Island Golf
Academy, JNG, Callaway, Panasonic, ParGolf, Gatorade and Sunplay.
